Abstract

Unmanned and Autonomous Systems (UAS), also referred to as UxS in English (Unmanned Systems, where x = aerial, ground, maritime, etc.) or RAS (Robotic and Autonomous Systems), have experienced a significant increase in use across modern wars and conflicts. This growth not only presents new opportunities and challenges but also underscores the importance of acquiring a comprehensive understanding of their employment. In Colombia, the adoption of SNTA in riverine operations has been driven by their ability to conduct military activities such as detection, reconnaissance, surveillance, and intelligence gathering more efficiently than traditional methods. These systems have proven to be exceptional tools for large-scale data collection across all domains of warfare; however, effective implementation requires a thorough understanding of fundamental principles to maximize their benefits. Regarding the basic concepts of operation, it is essential to grasp the dynamics of these systems and the types of sensors employed. Such comprehension enables the optimization of data collection, ensuring that specific objectives in each combat mission are achieved with maximum efficiency. By mastering these foundational elements, military forces can enhance operational effectiveness and leverage the full potential of SNTA technologies.

Ultimately, the introduction of SNTA into contemporary conflicts reflects how technology is redefining battlefield strategies. These systems provide military innovation that represents a paradigm shift, where technological platforms are not merely instruments of war but also transformative elements in the conception and execution of riverine operations in the twenty-first century.
