Abstract

This review article analyzes the incorporation of the gender perspective into the security and defense policies and strategies of the Colombian State. To this end, it examines the historical background of women’s participation in the military sphere, identifies advances in the inclusion of the gender perspective within military institutions, and evaluates their contributions to strengthening national security and defense. The methodology was based on an exhaustive documentary review of national and international sources. The results show significant progress in the inclusion of women in the Armed Forces and in the formulation of gender-sensitive policies; however, structural and institutional challenges persist. It is concluded that the effective incorporation of this perspective represents both a challenge and an opportunity to enhance operational effectiveness and promote equity within Colombian military institutions.
