The Heartland or Vital Nucleus of Colombia

Abstract

This article is the result of a documentary research process based on the search, analysis and
interpretation of geopolitical elements, through which it was possible to determine the importance of Colombia and its geostrategic positioning in the region. To fulfill the main objective of the research, it was necessary to carry out a situational and descriptive analysis of the geographical, demographic, economic and relational factors, allowing at the end of the academic exercise to argue the existence of the Heartland of Colombia and its location in the territory covered. between the cities of Bogotá, Medellín and Cali; area known as the Golden Triangle. This sector was determined because, in the last two decades, the development of the country has been concentrated there, it has the highest economic and industrial growth, it also has the best road infrastructure, it has the highest population density and finally it is the region that contributes the most to the Gross Domestic Product of the Country. In the same way, the descriptive analysis of the aforementioned factors allowed us to state that the notable growth of the Caribbean Region and especially that of the city of Barranquilla will be in the short term a determining element for the projection and growth of the Vital Nucleus of Colombia to this region of the country.
