Communication Systems in Maritime Interdiction Operations: Impact on Command and Control

Maritime interdiction operations represent a crucial component of maritime security and defense, especially in preventing illicit activities at sea. This review article explores the role of communication systems in enhancing the command and control of these operations, focusing on the efficiency and coordination that these systems provide. Through the examination of existing research, case studies, and consultation on current communication equipment that offers extensive coverage and range in the maritime environment, satellite communication technologies, means employed in other countries, and the impact of these systems on situational awareness are analyzed. The findings suggest that effective communication is essential for real-time decision-making, synchronizing efforts among units, and responding rapidly to emerging situations. Finally, recommendations are presented to improve communication systems in maritime interdiction operations, thereby contributing to the effectiveness and security of the operations.
