This article analyzes the evolution of the Amazon Basin as a strategic axis for the trafficking of controlled substances to Europe, emphasizing its relevance for transnational criminal organizations. Through the study of recent cases, such as the seizure of 1,668 kg of drugs on river barges in Brazil, it highlights the transportation and storage dynamics in this region. The geographical characteristics of the basin, combined with vulnerabilities in infrastructure and border security, favor the development of river routes connecting to international markets via West Africa. Using a descriptive and exploratory approach, the article underscores the importance of Brazil as a key point in the drug trafficking value chain, while also addressing the challenges faced by the countries of the tri-border area in implementing effective strategies against these illicit activities.
