Mexico: important center of production and trafficking of methamphetamine to Oceania.

Abstract

This case study provides evidence of an international process involving the participation of Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) in Mexico, as the main organizing entity of the phases of the precursors, which are the raw material; production, which includes clandestine laboratories in the golden triangle in Mexico; the transfer by sea or the so-called “Ruta del Cristal”; and the final destination or consumers. The production and trafficking of methamphetamines has been significantly suspected in Mexico in recent decades. Much of the methamphetamine produced in Mexico is sold in the United States, although it is evident that it is being distributed to Australia and New Zealand, this due to seizures. Methamphetamine production in Mexico has become more sophisticated in recent years and there has been an increase in the amount of the drug being produced and trafficked. This has helped make the drug more accessible to many users.
