Abstract

The projection of the Colombian Navy to become a Medium Navy of Regional Projection and Medium Oceanic Power forces the Nation to have a decisive influence in the Caribbean Sea, not through a more significant amount of means but through the generation of impact and influence in the region. Influence can be determined through Naval Power, which is materialized in the afloat units of the Navy as a critical tool in foreign policy development; the union of these two variables results in Naval Diplomacy.
Currently, Colombia is facing a legal situation that risks a large part of the maritime territory. Therefore, the country’s national interests are affected. As these interests are affected, the state’s National Power is considerably weakened. This endangers the formation and development of the Nation’s power to influence the region and protect the interests of the Colombian people.
The use of Naval Diplomacy through the strategic use of Naval Superiority will allow the country to execute diverse Naval Operations for the defense and support of the territory. This key factor will enable social and economic development to continue. However, the most important thing is that it will foster the maritime conscience in the people.
