Abstract

This manuscript aims to identify the true benefit of using smart contracts as part of Blockchain technology in agri-food supply chains. The goal is to achieve food security by delivering products tailored to customer needs, ensuring traceability from producer to end user, and providing information on the physical and chemical components of the product in an appropriate and transparent manner for consumption or distribution. This research work is a bibliographic review of the available literature on Smart Contracts, Agri-Food Supply Chains, and Blockchain. The information was collected from online databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and E-books over a five-year period (2018-2022). The study conducts a content analysis followed by a descriptive analysis. Based on all the compiled information regarding the transparency of smart contracts as a benefit in the agri-food supply chain, it can be concluded that smart contracts provide security to each actor in the chain, ensuring alignment between agreements and operational execution. This facilitates the development of food security and a blockchain system with secure and immutable transactions.
